New Version Underway, Data Issues
Hello there. It has been a while, and for that I apologize. I have some excuses for my pretty pathetic record of replying to emails and comments, and for my lack of work on SpendThrift lately. Not that it makes it okay, and I'm sorry for leaving some of you hanging, but alas, there are only so many hours in the day. At any rate, I got a new PowerBook a few months ago, and when I switched, I forgot to switch over the email account I get feedback at. Oops. And then, the more serious reason, is that my day job takes a lot out of me, mentally, and sometimes all I can do is watch reality tv when I get home. I always write more during baseball season, though, so that bodes well.
At any rate, I've been busily at work on SpendThrift 3, which is now far enough along that i feel like I can talk about it without jinxing my ability to finish it. I've already implemented a pretty good handful of things that people have been asking for for a long time, like an interface to multiple accounts (in a way that hopefully doesn't break the simplicity that I've always prized), full freedom to sort the tables, the ability to reorder table columns, and other stuff like that. It's rewritten nearly from the ground up, so hopefully that means that everything I've learned in the last two years will be brought to bear, and effort won't be wasted on working around bad decisions I made in April 2004.
Beyond that, I understand that a few of you are having some trouble with file corruption in the current version. I'm really not sure what might be causing that, and I've never seen it myself, but enough people are reporting it to cause me some concern, so I will be testing that out as best I can. If anyone has a 'corrupted' file that doesn't have any personal data or whatever that they can send, that would help out the cause quite a bit.
As always, feedback is welcome (see the about box for where to send it), and I hope to have a new version for you in a month or so.
