Spotlight Plugin, Next Version
Greetings to all SpendThrift users, loyal and new alike.
My apologies for the lack of updates recently. I've been busy at the day job and traveling a fair amount. However, I am starting to get back into the mood for writing sloppy code. Actually, that's just the thing. Now that SpendThrift is a year and a half old, I'm finding myself somewhat constrained by mistakes or poor decisions I made a year ago. I've learned a lot since then, though, and hope to continue to learn. So, what that brings us to is a need to start fresh. Thus, the next version's going to take a while. If glaring issues come up with the current one, I'll come back to it (for instance, I'll see if I can get the window/column sizes to stick more reliably), but I'll primarily be reconstructing it. I intend to keep file formats the same, and the basics of the thing the same, but hopefully to make it both leaner and meaner, and more feature-rich at the same time. We'll see how that works. If you have suggestions, by all means send them along.
In the meantime, I've got a pretty early stab at a Spotlight plugin for SpendThrift files. It indexes text in the To/From, Location, and Category files and makes it all searchable. It's smart enough to not index data in password-protected files, too. it's stable, too (not that you'd notice it crashing). it's not entirely tidy with its memory, is the only drawback, but it's very small, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Anyway, here it is:
Place it in /Library/Spotlight and just re-save your file and it should do its thing. Like this:
