public transport

i shouldn't be allowed to read the globe's article comments
we knew this

'it's time for a change
once the 't' goes down private businesses will take up the slack'

do conservatives sit and read the paper
foaming at the mouth
and muttering things like that

and do they actually believe them

it's beyond näive
to the point where i'm just sad
sad that i wasted my time writing something about it
yet here we are

let's put it simply for the benefit of the
romney/mccain/palin supporter
who lives in hopkinton
commutes to tewksbury
and forswears going into the city for anything but a ball game

even though you don't use something doesn't mean it doesn't benefit you

the top scientist who's raising her family in grafton
was lured to the boston area by the prospect of working in cambridge
to make a drug to cure an ailment that
a high powered ad agency executive across town
will soon convince us we might have

while helping to generate tax revenue
jobs
and prestige
for the entire state
[which strangely seem to concentrate themselves in that place you never go]
[but don't take that personally]
they're not clogging up your commute on 495
because they can take the train

it can be termed a long play
investing in something that loses money on its face
by the bushel even
knowing that in the end
it is integral to a win
for the entire group

are there entrenched interests and wasted money
sure
probably
but one can't help but wonder
if they're 95 percent of the carping
5 percent of the problem
and 0 percent of the solution

kinda like our friend quoted above
