it's good to have them

the other day someone asked me what my
resolutions
were for the oncoming year

the most useful one i came up with was that
i want to score a goal
i never have before
in a proper match
and i want to score a goal

this is a useful thing to say both in a literal and
metaphorical
sense
and i'm sure my nonexistent readers can make of that what
they will

but
after years of mediocrity all over the pitch
of insufficient quality finishing
a foot or two off here or there

of expending my
sporadic best play
to spoil my adversary's work
or
in the cause of setting up
someone else's golazo

it boils down to the simple fact
that i want to score a goal this year

to run through the ball and punch it into the net
decisively
and dance joyfully with the corner flag

okay maybe not that part
but i can dream
