cleaning up
unpacked a two year old box today
boy did i have a lot of crap built up two apartments ago
now i have less
the archaeology of it all is fascinating
i found things that are worthless but useful
like my stop & shop card
and things that are useless but fascinating
like my grandfather's 60-year-old sliderule
i feel immensely better having re-hung pictures on my wall
peter gammons just called yankee stadium
the greatest sporting facility in the western hemiphere
having been there
[and ranted about this before]
it's possible that it was once
but no
and why do they put jeter's showy dive into the stands
up with genuinely meaningful plays
i had never been to a book reading until yesterday
it was pretty clear that neal stephenson doesn't
enjoy such things
which didn't surprise me in the least
i don't necessarily blame him considering
how pointless some of the questions were
[not yours garrett]
it's a nice thing to have a day
magically become one of those productive days
a day devoted to clearing the detritus
thrown aside
because it stands in the way of your work during the day
your play afterwards
or your sleep at night
shortcuts so necessary to near-term sanity
that nevertheless eventually make you feel buried
who me
expounding upon the virtues of cleaning
not just the cleaning of a room
but the generalized stopping
taking a breath
and unfucking your life
needs to happen sometimes
