homecoming

over the winter, particularly this one, it can be easy to forget how much the red sox mean to people around here, but on this, yet another opening day, but the only one that matters, you can see everybody in a good mood, wearing hats, t-shirts, or whatever, and know that nothing’s changed.

the cafeteria took advantage of this by selling ‘fenway franks’. which turned out to be some other kind of hot dog, served on firm, not soggy, side-split (horror!) buns, a small pile of chips, and on a lark, a bag of cracker jacks. all this cost me $9, to boot. it’s not that i care about the money, more that i’m struck by the irony that the real thing would have been cheaper. but i’ve got to wait two weeks more for that.

of course, they still have to win or else this good mood will be short-lived.
