do they know it's christmas

as many of us unwrap awesome loot tomorrow morning, none of us should be wasting our time thinking about exactly what waterboarding is really like (via boing boing). because we’re all good, decent people, and shouldn’t feel bad about having nice things.

that said, with that comes a certain responsibility on days where we aren’t enjoying time with treasured friends, family, and shiny new toys.

our country tortures people, plain and simple. that’s the kind of country we are right now, but i sincerely hope it’s not the kind of people we are. it seems to me that this issue is considerably harder to obfuscate than the ones that cost john kerry the presidency four years ago, but one mustn’t underestimate the democrats’ ability to lose. what it boils down to me, is that the popularity of ‘24’, the ‘saw’ movies, and similar things aside, i don’t think that we’re that kind of people. we sure as hell have always acted as if we’re above that sort of thing, and well, now we’ve got to actually be above it.

to me, it may be the biggest issue in picking a candidate.
